ABOUT CAMPUS OUTREACH

Glorifying god by building laborers.

Campus Outreach is a college ministry whose aim is to change the world through evangelism and discipleship. We take seriously Jesus’s call to “go and make disciples of all nations.”  Our vision is to glorify God by building laborers on the campus for the lost world. Our mission is to build authentic relationships with students in order to share the gospel, establish them in their faith, and equip them to share the gospel with others. We then hope to export them into the world with a readiness to serve as leaders in their homes, churches, workplaces, and families.

OUR HISTORY

MAKING DISCIPLES IS OUR GROWTH MODEL.

Campus Outreach was founded in 1978 at Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Alabama. In the following years, the ministry grew rapidly and spread throughout the Southeast as well as several countries internationally. At the present time, Campus Outreach has twenty-three regions throughout the US and seven regions internationally.

In 1995, a group of Campus Outreach staff members moved from Augusta, GA to Charlotte, NC to begin ministering to college students at UNC-Charlotte and UNC-Greensboro. Over the course of the last two decades, CO Charlotte has expanded to 6 campuses throughout North Carolina and launched new ministries to Johannesburg, South Africa (2001), Lynchburg, VA (2006) and Washington DC (2010).

In 2017, Campus Outreach Charlotte commissioned a new team of 11 staff members to begin Campus Outreach Central Florida. In 2018, our team, in partnership with Trinity Presbyterian Church, will begin ministering to college students at colleges in Lakeland and Tampa.

OUR DISTINCTIVES

RELATIONAL EVANGELISM

Campus Outreach has a strong commitment to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with unbelieving students on each campus. We believe that this is commanded and modeled all throughout scripture. We look at texts like Romans 10:13-15 and 2 Timothy 4:2 as scriptural basis for sharing our faith with non-christian students on the campus.

LIFE ON LIFE DISCIPLESHIP

We believe the best spiritual training takes place in the context of relationships. We are committed to intentionally opening our Bibles and lives with one another. This emphasizes our value for the authority of God’s Word and the authenticity that is experienced through life-on-life relationships. We focus primarily on discipling new and young believers while training them to do the same with their fellow college students.

STRATEGIC GROWTH THROUGH MULTIPLICATION

Campus Outreach has found that the most effective way to grow big is by staying small. Campus Outreach is made up of 30 independent “franchises” throughout the world. Once a franchise grows large enough, it reproduces and launches new staff members to a new region, in partnership with a “franchise church”. This new host church assumes all authority and oversight for that franchise. So in essence Campus Outreach is an organic collection of the 30 college ministries of individual churches which share a common vision and strategy but with no central headquarters or central authority.

COMMITMENT TO THE LOCAL CHURCH

Each Campus Outreach franchise is under the authority and leadership of a regional church body which serves as a crucial source of authority, resources and leadership. By functioning in partnership with and under the authority of local churches, we prepare the next generation of leaders for a lifetime of service in the Body of Christ. Campus Outreach Central Florida serves as both a ministry and mission of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Lakeland, FL.

A GLOBAL NETWORK

Campus Outreach is an organic network of churches with a vision for building laborers in one of the most strategic contexts on earth. Our network of 30 franchises in 7 countries creates unparalleled growth and service opportunities. Franchises partner to execute leadership assessments, training projects, conferences and strategic initiatives. Collaboration is critical to finding the best deployment tracks for graduates, both in the U.S. and abroad.
