I grew up in the church, where I read a children’s Bible with my mom and attended Vacation Bible School, but I didn't have a personal relationship with Jesus. During the first week of my freshman year at Florida Southern College, I met Graham, a staff member with Campus Outreach. He asked me some simple questions like, “Who is Jesus?” and “What does it mean to be a Christian?” While I said I was a Christian, I couldn't answer those questions. I had always been told I was a “good kid,” and I thought highly of myself. But as I began meeting with Graham, God began changing the way I saw myself. I started reading the Bible on my own and began to see my own sin and my need for a savior. At the same time, I began to see how perfect and amazing Jesus is. Around this time, one of my friends, Santi, began discipling me, and God continued to change the direction of my life. The summer after my sophomore year, I had the opportunity to attend Campus Outreach's Summer Project in South Carolina. For the first time, I was able to step back and examine the motivations behind the way I was living. I realized that so much of what I was pursuing was ultimately about building my own kingdom. I wanted to make as much money as I could and live my version of a good life. I decided I didn't want that to be what drove my life. God gave me a desire to live for something bigger than myself and to make him the center of my life. During my last year of college, I had the opportunity to disciple a student named Miller. Getting a front-row seat to the way God can work in someone's life showed me how much I love investing in others and helping them know Jesus. Seeing God work in Miller's life confirmed my desire to continue doing this work. It is hard for me to imagine a life where Jesus isn't at the center of what I do. I want to help other people know the same Jesus who changed my life.
